Use your antivirus software
Considering what you are up against -- unknown software, doing unknown things to unknown files -- your best bet is to let your antivirus software do the cleaning for you. Make sure you have an antivirus software and make sure that is up-to-date.

Removal tools
If you know what virus you have -- because your antivirus program identified it or you have been alerted to it through some other means, but your antivirus software can't remove it, you may need to do it yourself.
The following is a list of sites that provide removal tools for specific viruses. These may be special purpose utilities that were designed for one specific virus or they may be the instructions that you need to remove the virus manually.

Why does antivirus software fail to detect or remove the virus?

• the obvious -- it is out of date, the virus definition files are out of date, the virus is too new.
• the virus unloads the antivirus software from memory (Klez).
• the virus is polymorphic and changes the code so that it is not recognized.
